No Sound - No Drivers Work

I just installed Vista today, everything is fine but my sound card wont work. I tried getting drivers from HP and Conexant and none work. I also tried the disk that came with my Special Edition L2000 for drivers and that did not work either. It says "FAILURE." Please help me, as I would like to have sound with Vista, its almost worth going back to XP for....

M$ understands how critical the audio is, for everyone... that is why they work so closely with Creative to make sure their stuff works before even getting to the Beta 2 stage (and nvidia and ati for graphics). However, for anything else you might be waiting for a new release from your manufacturer (hp/conexant) before you hear anything in Vista.
Back
when XP was in Beta 2, I could just barely get my Force Feedback mouse to work. I just gave that up this week, in it's place is a new M$ keyboard w/integerated fingerprint reader and wireless mouse (combo). Figures, M$ doesn't have the fingerprint stuff working in Vista yet. Like my old mouse, I am sure it will be working by the time Vista is out of Beta. I doubt it will be working any time soon.
Good luck to ya!

Try to download the XP driver and then make the .exe file compatible with XP SP2
in that way my HP Sound card started to work

That may possibly work for 32 bit but good luck finding x64 drivers at all. I'm pretty unhappy about this whole situation as you'd think HP would be on top of things, but I guess not.

Wrote to ask HP support when there would be a driver aviabel and they repleyed it would be avaiabel when it was done... the more users wanting the driver the faster they would work making it... så guess the only real option is to mass request the driver from HP support...

I too just spent 20 minutes chatting with HP tech support. I discovered the same thing: that is, they asked, "You realize this is a beta, right?" I respond with, "Yes, but HP is a HUGE PC manufacturer, one of the largest. I would imagine that HP would be more up to speed." Then, no response. I think I offended her. Finally, I ask what I can do and she says, "Wait for the actual release." What a joke, seriosly HP, keep up, will ya! ;)

Later today I will be attempting to play around with some drivers for this with the x86 version of vista since there's an abundance of 32 bit drivers. Now my question is, if you can't get the standard conexant drivers to load in x86 vista, have you tried the realtek ac97 drivers? Vista recognizes them as proper drivers fo my hardware but for some reason they fail to install properly in x64 vista, wondering if this is a 64 specific issue.

Vista x64 requires 64 bit drivers. 32 bit drivers will not work. x64 drivers for WinXP *MAY* work.

As of June 9, 2006, HP released the Windows XP Pro 64-bit driver that should work if you are still having this problem. http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/22633.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
